Geneva, Switzerland: Geneva easily takes a top spot for overall cost. We have never spent more money on food, transportation, and accommodations than we did in Geneva! Even basic hotel rooms can command premium luxury prices in December, and simple market lunches or mugs of warming drinks will run you significantly more than almost anywhere else on the continent. It’s an idealic setting a fantastic homebase to see the rest of the Lake Geneva Christmas markets, but the beauty comes with a steep price tag.
Zurich, Switzerland: Zurich is another major investment for a winter trip. While the markets set inside the main station and along the lake are beautifully executed, high accommodation rates, pricey sit-down dining, and expensive regional transit make it one of the highest-budget stops in Europe.
Vienna, Austria: Vienna's market season is world-famous, but visiting during peak December comes with steep luxury price points. Hotel rates around the city center jump drastically, and high-end cafes, sit-down dining, and premium market goods make it a noticeably pricier destination.
