How to Get to Villeneuve for the Christmas Markets
By Air: If you are coming from Europe or overseas, fly into Geneva Airport (GVA). It is incredibly convenient and well-connected. From the airport, you can take a direct train right to Villeneuve's main station. The scenic ride along Lake Geneva takes just about an hour, and trains run frequently, making it one of the easiest airport-to-market commutes in Europe.
By Train: Villeneuve is a fantastic railway hub on the Swiss Riviera line, making it easily accessible from various cities. From Montreux, it takes less than 10 minutes! If you are traveling from further away, like Zurich or Bern, connections are seamless and usually take around 2 to 2.5 hours. We highly recommend booking a Swiss Travel Pass if you plan on hopping between the lakeside towns, as it covers your trains, buses, and even boats! How to Get Around Lake Geneva
The best way to see the town of Villeneuve and its Christmas market is to stay in Villeneuve or near one of the main cities on the lake like Geneva and Montreux and walk and take the local train system. Most of the festive action is concentrated near the water, and walking lets you enjoy the decorated streets. Villeneuve is incredibly pedestrian-friendly, and the main market locations are just a 5 to 10-minute walk from the train station.
If you prefer public transport, a great tip for travelers is the Montreux Riviera Card. If you stay in a hotel or hostel in the region, your host will provide this card for free! It gives you unlimited travel on the local VMCV buses and regional trains for the duration of your stay, which makes hopping over to neighboring markets a breeze.
Where Is the Villeneuve Christmas Market?
The Villeneuve Christmas festivities take place right along the water near the lake promenade. The main hub of the event, including the famous Village des Lutins (Elves Village), gourmet food chalets, and children's attractions, is set up at the Minigolf de L'Ouchettaz. (Parking du Mini-Golf, 1844 Villeneuve). This area focuses heavily on younger children and families, featuring fun rides and a magical atmosphere. You will also find a selection of traditional stalls selling typical Christmas market food and festive items right near the lakeside.
The market site is located just 500 meters (about a 5- to 7-minute walk) from the main train station, Villeneuve gare. You can enjoy a brief walk down Grand Rue or along the scenic lakeside path directly to the entrance.
If you prefer not to walk, Villeneuve runs a free Petit Train (little tourist train) during market hours. It runs every 20 minutes and makes stops all along Grand Rue, connecting the main train station and local parking areas straight to the Village des Lutins.

Villeneuve Christmas Market Opening Dates & Times
The official 2026 Villeneuve Christmas market dates have not been released yet, but in line with the greater Riviera Noël festivities, they can be expected to run from about November 20 through December 24, 2026.
Unlike the larger markets, Villeneuve offers a very relaxed, condensed schedule. The market is usually open from Wednesday to Sunday. On weekdays, the stalls generally open around noon and close at 6:00 p.m. On weekends, the market opens earlier at 10:00 a.m. and some nights continue buzzing until 8:00 p.m.
If you want a break from the shoulder-to-shoulder crowds of Montreux or the German mega-markets like Munich or Cologne, Villeneuve is a little uncrowded haven! It has a much more local, intimate vibe that is perfect for a relaxed, uncrowded stroll.
