How to Get to Vevey for the Christmas Markets
By Air: If you are coming from Europe or overseas, fly into Geneva Airport (GVA). It is incredibly convenient and well-connected. From the airport, you can take a direct train right to Vevey's main station. The scenic ride along Lake Geneva takes just about an hour, and trains run frequently, making it one of the easiest airport-to-market commutes in Europe.
By Train: Vevey is a fantastic railway hub on the Swiss Riviera line, making it easily accessible from various cities. From Lausanne, it’s a quick 15-minute ride, and from Montreux, it takes less than 10 minutes! If you are traveling from further away, like Zurich or Bern, connections are seamless and usually take around 2 to 2.5 hours. We highly recommend booking a Swiss Travel Pass if you plan on hopping between the lakeside towns, as it covers your trains, buses, and even boats!
How to Get Around Lake Geneva
The best way to see the town of Vevey and its Christmas market is to stay in Vevey or near one of the main citites on the lake and walk and take the local train system. Most of the festive action is concentrated near the water, and walking lets you enjoy the decorated streets. Vevey is incredibly pedestrian-friendly, and the main market locations are just a 5 to 10-minute walk from the train station.
If you prefer public transport, a great tip for travelers is the Montreux Riviera Card. If you stay in a hotel or hostel in the region, your host will provide this card for free! It gives you unlimited travel on the local VMCV buses and regional trains for the duration of your stay, which makes hopping over to neighboring markets a breeze.
Where Is the Vevey Christmas Market?
Typically, Vevey’s Christmas festivities are concentrated in the heart of town. While Place du Marché is often the highlight of Vevey for the holidays, things look a little different this year. This location right on the edge of Lake Geneva typically hosts the main Vevey Riviera Noël market with around 40 beautifully illuminated artisan chalets, a traditional grand Vaud-style wooden restaurant, and a skating rink, but
ue to 2026 construction, the main event will instead be held just a short stroll away at Place Scanavin. The Village de Noël at Place Scanavin is the heart of the holidays and the star of the show this year! Please check more official information from Vevey tourism here before visiting.
Vevey Christmas Market Opening Dates & Times
The official 2026 Vevey Christmas market dates have not been released yet. But guaging from the trends of the previous years, the Vevey Riviera Noël can be expected to run from November 19 through December 31, 2026. Do note that while the ice rink and food spots often stay open through New Year's Eve, many artisan stalls pack up on December 23 or 24.
Unlike some of the larger, more rigid markets, Vevey offers a relaxed schedule. The chalets generally open around 11 a.m. and close between 8 p.m. and 10 p.m. As the weekend approaches, the Finnish kotas and food chalets at the Place Scanavin market often stay buzzing until midnight!

Crowds at Vevey's Christmas Markets
If you want a break from the shoulder-to-shoulder crowds of Montreux or the German mega-markets like Munich or Cologne, Vevey is your sanctuary! It has a much more local, intimate vibe that is perfect for a relaxed evening stroll.
The busiest times are Friday and Saturday evenings when locals head out for their after-work fondue or a lap around the ice rink, but it’s still a very manageable crowd. We personally love visiting right before sunset. Seeing the chalet lights reflect off Lake Geneva as the sky turns pastel pink and purple is unforgettable!
Foods & Drinks to Try in Vevey

Swiss Fondue: A number of local restaurants surrounding the market squares offer incredible fondue experiences. We highly recommend booking a table at a nearby spot like Les 3 Sifflets for an iconic and slightly theatrical traditional fondue dinner right in the heart of Vevey.
Fondue Chinoise / Charbonnade: If you want a unique market experience, head over to the private chalets and Finnish Kotas at the market! You can book these in advance to enjoy fondue chinoise (meat cooked in a flavorful broth) or charbonnade (meat grilled on a small tabletop charcoal grill), often served with local sides and sauces.
Swiss Raclette: This is a market staple where melted cheese is scraped onto boiled potatoes and pickles. It is the perfect snack!
Vin Chaud: Remember, in this corner of Switzerland, they primarily speak French! Grab a steaming mug of this Swiss version of mulled wine and enjoy it by the log fires at Place Scanavin.
Chocolates: Since this is Switzerland, the chocolate is top-tier. You will find stalls selling beautiful handmade chocolates that are almost too pretty to eat.

Handmade Jewelry and Crafts: With about 40 local exhibitors, you'll find unique, high-quality pieces created by local artists and creatives from the Swiss Riviera.
Swiss Woodwork: Look for beautifully carved wooden toys, bowls, and mountain-themed home decor.
Regional Vaudois Wines: The nearby Lavaux vineyards are a UNESCO World Heritage site, making local wine an incredible gift to bring home.
