4 Day Itinerary for an Adults Only Disney World Trip
Going to Disney World as an adult is seriously underrated. While Disney adults sometimes catch a bad rap, we believe it is just because we know the value of a guaranteed good experience. When the world feels a bit chaotic, there is nothing like a magical getaway to refresh your perspective. These parks were born from creative innovation and nostalgia, and they offer a level of escapism that you just cannot find anywhere else.
The most magical place on earth asks for a bit of strategy! It requires early mornings, late nights, and a fair amount of planning, but the return is worth it! You get so much fun and entertainment, fantastic food, kind staff, and the deepest sleep you have ever had after a long park day.
Getting to the Magic
Whether you are driving or flying, the real "day one" of your Disney vacation is about the transition. We have done the days where we jumped off a plane and dashed straight to the parks, but we do not recommend that. It might shave off a night of costs, but it almost guarantees you will be exhausted before your first real park day even begins.
What we recommend instead is checking into your hotel and spending a little time getting settled. Use this evening to chow down at your Disney resort, visit a different resort to check out the theme, or head to Disney Springs for a bite and some shopping. This keeps the evening chill and ensures you are ready for the week ahead.
Day One: EPCOT
EPCOT is the perfect place to start an adults only vacation, whether it is your first visit or your 20th. It is one of the most adult friendly parks with fewer kids running around, and it offers the best mix of rides and relaxation. We also love starting here because World Showcase, the best part of the park, usually opens later than the rest. If you had to take an early morning flight the same day you hit the parks, this timing ensures you do not miss out on the good stuff. Today, Lightning Lanes multi-pass are optional, but you need a Single Pass for Cosmic Rewind.
Start your morning by rope dropping Frozen Ever After in the Norway pavilion. This is one ride that’s nice, but you don’t want to wait an hour or more for, so rope dropping it is the perfect way to fit it in while kind of getting the wait out of the way. After that, you can hit other staples early in the day like Soarin' Around the World and then the classic Living With the Land. With no kids in tow, you can move through these areas quickly and start exploring the World Showcase early before the sun starts beating down.
In the afternoon, make sure you have your Lightning Lane Single Pass spot for Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind. After that, head for the single rider line for the new version of Test Track. Once you have had your thrill fix, take a midday break at Disney’s Riviera Resort. It is just a quick Skyliner ride away and is a great spot for a proper espresso, a light snack, or a cocktail to escape the midday heat.
Don’t want to hop over to the resort? Take an AC break by popping into the SeaBase Aquariaum, The Seas with Nemo & Friends, and Turtle Talk with Crush. Follow up the undersea adventure with a visit to try various sodas from around the world at Cool Club.
End your evening back at EPCOT for the single rider line of Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure in the France pavilion, and more time wandering the World Showcase. Finish the day while watching Luminous: The Symphony of Us, which is a stunning fireworks and water show.
Day Two: Magic Kingdom
Magic Kingdom is where you will find the most families and children, but after a relaxing day at EPCOT, it is time to jump into the magic! For an adults only day, we skip the character meet and greets and the slower kiddie rides. We focus instead on the thrilling and fantastical rides that hold up for generations. Lightning Lanes are optional here but highly recommended.
Start the morning by rope dropping Seven Dwarfs Mine Train to get the longest line out of the way. Spend the rest of your morning in Frontierland and Adventureland, popping onto Pirates of the Caribbean, Jungle Cruise, and Big Thunder Mountain Railroad (multipass needed).
For lunch, we suggest Columbia Harbour House for a solid meal withe some of the best quick service dining options in the park and plenty of gluten-free options as well! Afterwards, visit the best of Tomorrowland for attractions like Space Mountain (which you should ride with a Lightning Lane Multipass!), Buzz Lightyear Space Ranger Spin, and even Monsters Inc Laugh Floor.
As the sun starts to set, head to dinner at Jungle Navigation Co. LTD Skipper Canteen, which has some of the most creative food in the park. Afterward, visit the Haunted Mansion, and the Jungle Cruise, then and find a spot to watch the Happily Ever After fireworks show. Cap off the night with a visit to the new and amazing Beak and Barrel.
Day Three: Hollywood Studios
Hollywood Studios is a paradise for movie fans and thrill seekers. It generally feels more adult friendly than Magic Kingdom, and you should definitely take advantage of the two single rider lines here to save time. We recommend using Lightning Lanes to ensure you get through all the big attractions.
Start your morning in by rope dropping Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway. This is a wonderful ride, but the ride queue is brutal! It’s all out in the concrete pavement with no shade overhead, and this line can get very long. That’s why we always recommend doing it first! Afterward, head back to Toy Story Land to ride and get a little competitive Midway Mania. If you’d like to pay for a Lightning Lane to ride Slinky Dog Dash, then prioritize getting that one in advance, otherwise, call the mild coaster a skip for this round to skip the two hour wait. If you like spinning rides, there’s rarely a line over 15 minutes for Alien Swirling Saucers.
Spend your afternoon in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. Grab lunch at Docking Bay 7, then either use a Lightning Lane multi-pass for Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run or head to the single riders lane to get on quickly without it. If you’re a single rider, you are more likely than not going to get an Engineer position in the ride, but if you use a lightning lane, your chances of being pilot or at least gunner are much higher. Afterwards, use a Lightning Lane single pass for Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance. If you’re okay with waiting, the typical wait for this ride is between 45 minutes and two hours.
After you finish exploring Galaxy’s Edge, head back towards the front of the park to see the Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular for a bit of nostalgia and a chance to sit down in the shade. Need a snack? We love stopping at Baseline Tap House for snacks and drinks.
As it gets closer to evening, head over to Sunset Boulevard to ride Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets and The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror then bop through the shops. For dinner, go to Sci-Fi Dine-In Theater Restaurant for a fun, immersive experience, followed by drinks at Oga’s Cantina. End the night with the iconic Fantasmic night show.
Day Four: Animal Kingdom
Animal Kingdom doesn’t feel like a typical theme park. Instead, it’s cozy, incredibly immersive, and the perfect place to save for last. Because this park is both smaller than usual because of land and ride closures and usually closes the earliest, it gives you the flexibility to catch a late flight home or enjoy one last Disney dinner. You don’t need any Lightning Lanes today!
Begin your day by rope dropping the Avatar Flight of Passage ride in Pandora followed by the relaxing Na'vi River Journey. After you have explored that world, have an brunch or early light lunch at Nomad Lounge. It is one of the most relaxing spots in all of Disney World and is perfect for adults who want to slow down and enjoy the atmosphere!
In the afternoon, head to Africa for the Kilimanjaro Safaris, the Festival of the Lion King, and the Gorilla Falls Exploration Trail. Make sure to check out Discovery Island for Zootopia: Better Zoogether! and Asia for the Maharajah Jungle Trek followed by taking the single rider line to ride Expedition Everest.
For your final evening, you have options. You can have a fantastic dinner at Sanaa at Animal Kingdom Lodge where you can watch animals on the savanna while you eat. If you are not quite ready for the magic to end, you can park hop back to Magic Kingdom for a few more rides before heading to the airport or calling it a night.
