The One Budapest Cruise We’d Tell Everyone to Book (with Bubbles!)

Budapest is packed with thermal baths, historic sites, and stunning architecture, but our evening cruise along the Danube with unlimited prosecco sticks out as our absolute favorite experience during our visit! Part of our European Christmas Markets trip itinerary, this boat ride offered the perfect mix of sightseeing, relaxation, and bubbly indulgence. We were absolutely blown away by the experience. Here's what you need to know before you go - and a bit of heavy convincing to add it to your Budapest must-do list!

Planning Your Visit

The tour is really affordable, being less than $30 per person. We easily booked the cruise on Get Your Guide! There are a few, but this one is the one we did and recommend. The meeting point is super easy to find, located near the iconic Chain Bridge. We arrived about 15 minutes early, which we definitely recommend so you can get your pick of seating. There are actually a few different departure points depending on which option you book - Carl Lutz Rakpart and Margaret Island are the main ones. The staff was friendly and checked us in quickly, so we were on the boat and ready to go with no hassle.

The cruise runs year-round, but we found it especially magical during our November visit when the city was all decked out for Christmas. Winter in Budapest can be quite chilly, especially in the evening after the sun sets. After walking around the Christmas markets all day, the heated cabin of the cruise boat felt like a much needed warm retreat. We grabbed seats right next to a big window which gave us an unobstructed view of Budapest's illuminated landmarks while staying cozy inside.

For those who wanted an even more immersive experience, the boat offers access to the front deck where you could step outside to feel the crisp evening air and capture unobstructed photos. The illuminated buildings against the night sky created stunning photo ops! We ventured out a few times but were always happy to return to our warm seats. If you go, definitely wear layers and bring a good camera if you have one!

The Unlimited Prosecco Experience

When something says "unlimited," we're usually pretty skeptical. We wondered “is it really unlimited or will the servers just disappear after one round?” But this was the real deal! The staff kept coming around and refilling our glasses throughout the entire 1.5-hour cruise.

The staff are super attentive and make sure your glass is never empty. The prosecco itself was quite good – crisp, bubbly, and served chilled. It complemented the magical views perfectly, adding a touch of luxury to an already special evening! We made sure to eat before boarding since the cruise only offers light snacks and that’s only if you select the food option.

It was hard to count how many glasses we were served by the end of the 75-minute journey as our glasses were never fully empty, but we would guess it was about four flutes worth! Don’t drink alcohol? They also have lemonade and water! We highly recommend that you eat dinner before you go or you'll be drinking prosecco on an empty stomach on a boat - you don’t want to get tipsy and motion sick!

What to Expect On Board

The evening cruise takes you along the Danube River, offering unmatched panoramic views of Budapest's most iconic landmarks all lit up at night. The Hungarian Parliament Building, Liberty Bridge, Chain Bridge, Buda Castle, and the Fisherman's Bastion all look completely different (and honestly, more magical) when they're illuminated against the night sky.

The cruise includes an audio guide that points out the landmarks as you pass them. It was just enough info to know what we were looking at without someone talking in our ear the whole time.

One thing to keep in mind is that the city lights turn off at 10:00 PM, so if seeing the buildings all lit up is important to you (which it absolutely should be!), make sure to book an earlier cruise. We went around 7 PM, which was perfect timing.

What's Nearby the Prosecco Cruise

Since the cruise departs from a central location, there's a ton to explore before or after your boat ride. The Budapest Christmas markets were our main focus during our November trip, and they're absolutely magical in the evening. You can easily visit the markets, then head to the cruise for a relaxing end to your day.

If you're looking for somewhere to grab dinner before the cruise, there are plenty of great restaurants near the departure points. When the cruise ended, we didn't rush off immediately. The docking area near the Chain Bridge is beautiful at night and perfect for a few final photos of the illuminated bridge and castle.

Would We Recommend This Cruise?

After experiencing many tourist activities across Europe during our Christmas markets trip, this evening cruise stands out as one of the best values for money. The combination of spectacular views, comfortable setting, and genuinely unlimited prosecco made for an unforgettable evening in Budapest.

Budapest is definitely a city that should be seen from the water, especially after dark. The perspective it offers is entirely different from walking around, and the relaxed atmosphere of the cruise provides a welcome break from the hustle and bustle of exploring on foot.

Taking the cruise early in our trip turned out to be a great decision - it helped us get oriented to the city's layout and identify landmarks we wanted to explore more thoroughly later. We definitely feel that we got our money's worth in transport, information, and prosecco!

Budapest: Unlimited Prosecco, Beer and Aperol Spritz Cruise was definitely a highlight of our Budapest weekend. The perfect combination of sightseeing, relaxation, and indulgence, this cruise was the standout moment of our Budapest trip. Whether you're visiting for the Christmas markets like we did, or exploring Budapest any time of year, make sure to add this evening cruise to your itinerary. You won't regret it! Great views, staying warm, and all the prosecco we could drink - what's not to love?
